Synopsis:

Chosen is a story about a calling, faith, suspicion and absoluteness. It is a triptych in three times, places and forms. In the first part, a missionary couple and their two daughters arrive to Tanganyika, Eastern Africa. They narrate the story of their journey, while being accompanied by a spoken choir of local children who recite quotes from the Bible that they have learnt by heart. In the second part, we follow the two daughters, who have both become doctors. Louna returns to her homeland after a long time spent in faraway lands helping those in need. She offers to join her sister Raisa in the latter’s expensive private hospital. Following Louna is a choir of Those Who Have Suffered Injustice, the mute figures of which, despite the change of setting, continue to present their demands. In the hospital, Louna meets a hypochondriac woman, Arganette, and falls in love. But the ghosts do not leave her alone, forcing Louna to depart again. The third part is a young woman’s monologue, which takes place in the present. It narrates the political awakening of a young teenage girl, the discovery of a community, and the need to be a part of something bigger than an individual. The young woman begins to see the world and the people around her in a new light, and in so doing discovers herself a new identity.
